Question:
General: How to converte the coordinates of a geodatabase from one coordinate system to another?
Answer:
The following procedure outlines the process of changing the geometry of a MIKE URBAN model that has a coordinate system defined to another coordinate system. Simply re-defining the new coordinate system will only change the model projection and the XY coordinates of the model will still be in the original coordinate system. The following steps outline how to change the projection and coordinate geometry of a MIKE URBAN model.
- Open ArcCatalog and locate your geodatabase.
- Within the ‘mu_Geometry’ section of your geodatabase delete all ‘_Net’ and ‘_Net_Junctions’ tables.
- Make a copy of this edited geodatabase. (After editing the geodatabase you will need to close then re-open ArcCatalog to make a copy of your geodatabase).
- Delete ‘mu_Geometry’ from your copied geodatabase.
- Within ArcToolbox open Data Management Tools, Projections and Transformations, Feature, Project
- Locate your original edited geodatabase/mu_Geometry file within ‘Intput Dataset or Feature Class’.
- Locate your copied edited geodatabase file within ‘Ouput Dataset or Feature Class’ and type in the name ‘mu_Geometry’.
- Specify your new coordinate system in ‘Output Coordinate System’.
- In ‘Geographic Transformation’ select your desired transformation method. E.g. “NAD_1927_to_NAD_1983_NADCON”
- Click OK. After the calculations have completed, open the copied edited geodatabase in MIKE URBAN.
- Go to Tools, Rebuild Network. Once the network rebuild has completed, close the project and reopen.
- Your MIKE URBAN model will now be in the specified projection and the XY coordinates of the model will be updated.
